RONARD SLIM, the first openly gay presidential candidate, said he had been “very open and honest” about his sexuality during the 2016 election campaign, but that “a lot of the stuff I saw that was disgusting, that I wasn’t proud of.”
The first openly transgender person to seek the presidency, Slims campaign focused on issues including LGBTQ rights and gender equality.
In 2016, he earned more than $13 million in advertising.
He also announced a new website, slims.org, that allows users to track his fundraising and voter turnout.
The Washington Post asked Slims, a retired Marine Corps officer, what he thought of Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, and he responded that he thought “it was a very divisive election.”
“I’ve been very open and open about my sexuality,” Slims said.
“I was proud to be gay, I was proud of my mother, I’m proud of myself, I wasn’ t proud of Trump.”
The two men are known for having a friendly relationship during their years in the Marine Corps.
The two men met at the Marine barracks in Quantico, Virginia, and married in 2005.
They have three children.
